The natural selection is described as the survival of the fittest. In this project, Kati studied the mechanism of this selection inspired by fish eggs. Female salmon lay up to 6000 eggs but only one in 10 hatch. What if this principle was initiated in an object? In sustainable design, the objective is often to reduce towards the optimal. The artist was interested in focusing on the life-span, vitality and decay of an object that is designed to die. The fragile material eventually dissolves in water and underlines the temporality of things, and the disgusting practice of planned obsolescence.
