Dupu, which means island in Guna language, is an interactive participatory painting that offers indigenous people a platform to gather their memories in a time of great challenges to their culture and land. Guna visual artist Oswaldo DeLeon Kantule hand paints a map of his homeland, Guna Yala, an autonomous territory on Panama’s Caribbean coast now threatened by rising sea levels due to climate change. The map serves as an interface to explore audio-visual content created through a collaborative process with a group of youth in Ustupu, their most populated island.
